Must-See Garden Destinations

Mar 4, 2018 | Gardens

Going through my photo library recently I realized that I’ve gone to some absolutely thrilling garden destinations in the past few years, and want to share these special locations with you.

As a member of GWA: The Association For Garden Communicators, I try to attend each of their annual meetings. These gatherings always combine a trade show of garden plants and products, talks about communication and business skills, and visits to gardens. Best of all, every year the meetings are held in a different section of the USA or Canada. So every symposium allows me to get inspired and better informed about plants and gardens, and visit some very special places as well.

I want to share four of those lovely destinations with you in the next four posts. If you are planning a trip to Québec City, Canada; Pittsburgh, PA; Pasadena, CA; or Atlanta, GA, these are four beautiful, must-see gardens to add to your itinerary.

Today’s post is of pictured taken in 2013 when GWA visited Québec City. All I can say is that you have to go. It is one of the most charming small cities on the planet. Lovely architecture, great restaurants and friendly people. And a short distance away, you can visit the  Île d’Orléans, an area known for it’s agritourism. Small farms and orchards are open to the public, and you can drive around the area sampling delicious food and drink. Here are some of the things on Île d’Orléans, that caught my eye.

On Île d’Orléans there are many charming shops, and some of them have equally charming gardens.

I’m a sucker for old farm machinery, and when it’s been painted a slightly shocking pink, well… This was seen at the entry to Cassis Monna & Filles. The Cassis is delightful, as are the surroundings.

Crabapples and a blue sky. We went to this part of Canada in August and the weather was lovely.

I loved this urn because it was filled with what looked like a sculpture of a pine tree, but it was actually an ornamental cabbage going into flower. Travel to other places is all about being delightfully surprised.

We stopped at L’Art au Jardin in the afternoon.

The lovely L’Art au Jardin has areas of inspiration and lovely garden ornaments.

This was a lovely DIY way to ornament a small tree and let people express themselves as well. Good idea for any outdoor event or garden wedding.

The fences on Ile de Orleans are all built in a very particular style.

Fireworks over Quebec City! You have to go, that’s all there is to it.
